Michael “Corky” Bryan joined Parker Ranch in 1991 as the Livestock Marketing Manager. In January 2000 he was promoted to Vice President – Livestock Operations. He is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day livestock operations both in Hawaii and on the Mainland, including cattle marketing.

Prior to joining Parker Ranch, Bryan was the Vice President & General Manager of Hawaii Meat Company for six years and the Manager & Vice President of Hawaiian Milling feedlot. He also served as Ranch Manager for Puuwaawaa Ranch for ten years.

He began his career working summers for Kahua Meat Co. at the Honouliuli slaughterhouse.

After graduating from high school he worked for the summer at Princeville Ranch at Hanalei, Kauai and one summer during college at the Hawaii Meat Co. Feedlot in Ewa Beach, Oahu.

Subsequent to graduating from college, he began working at the Hawaii Meat Co. feedlot as a trainee and left 5 years later as Cattle Foreman to work again at Princeville Ranch.

Kipu Ranch was the next stop where he spent 4 years before moving to the Big Island and his tenure at Puuwaawaa.

Bryan is currently the President of the Ag Leadership Foundation of Hawaii and a board member. He is a committee member of the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association and chair of the Transportation Committee of the Hawaii Cattlemen’s Council and Hawaii Cattlemen’s Association. He is also a member of the Hawaii Farm Bureau Commodity Advisory Group, the Puuwaawaa Advisory Council, the Kansas Livestock Feeders Association, and the Texas Cattle Feeders Association and the California Cattllemen’s Association. He is on the Executive board of the Rancher’s Renaissance Coop and a board member of the Country Natural Beef Coop.

Bryan earned a Bachelor of Science degree from California State Polytechnic University. He was raised on Ewa Plantation, on Oahu, and graduated from Punahou School.

1992 - Present
Parker Ranch, Inc
Livestock Marketing Manager 1992-2000

Developed mainland/Canada marketing channels and set up pasture and feedlot relationships.

Vice President Livestock Operations 2000-Present

Oversee all livestock operations including service operations, both on Mainland and at Ranch. Transitioned to new structure after the VS program went into effect.

1991 – 1992
General Manager, Hawaii Meat Co. Ltd., Honolulu, Hi
and President of Island Commodities Corp.

Oversee operations and eventually engineered closing of the company meat processing and cattle feeding operations including the buy out of minority shareholders. Negotiated union severance package. Continued as President of Island Commodities Corp. rendering plant until we sold it to our partner in 2000.

1985 – 1991
Vice President, Manager, Hawaiian Milling Feedlot, Ewa Beach, Hi

Run feed yard including grain purchases. Succeeded in taking the employees away from union representation.

1975-1985
Livestock Manager, Puuwaawaa Ranch, Kona, Hawaii

Manage cow herd, marketing, pasture improvements through intensive grazing and a small feed lot. Took the ranch from 1,400 cows with 14 employees to 2,000 cows with 3 employees in less than 10 years.

1974-1975
Pasture Manager, Kohala Corp., Hawi, Hi

In charge of planting grass for pastures in old sugar cane fields. Also ran the Kohala Grain company until we closed it down.

1970-1974
Manager Kipu Ranch, Kauai, Hi

Responsible for pasture improvements, grazing management of cattle herds and grass finished beef production for a 500 cow herd.

1969-1970
Resident Manager, Princeville Ranch, Kauai

Responsible for small feedyard, cow herd, grazing management, and marketing. Assisted in reduction of cow herd due to sale of ranch.

1965-1969
Cattle foreman, Hawaiian Milling Feed Lot, Honolulu

Responsible for health and well being of cattle in the 10,000 head feed yard in Honolulu. Assisted in moving the yard from Ewa Beach to Barber’s Point location. Responsible weekly for identifying and selecting cattle for market and estimating weights and grades of those animals. Also worked in the feed mill.

Member and on Board of Directors and Live Cattle Marketing Committee of National Cattlemen’s Beef Assoc.
