Agricultural Leadership Foundation of Hawai‘i
joins with The Hawai`i Alliance for Non Profit Organizations to present

Board Alive: Best Practices for Nonprofit Board Governance

The workshop will take place on Monday June 23, 2008 from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm in Wailuku, Maui. The Agriculture Leadership Foundation of Hawaii (ALFH) is committed to building capacity in Hawai`i’s rural communities by providing opportunities to learn and to work together. Participants from agricultural, environmental and rural community development organizations will be given registration priority for this workshop. Recruiting nonprofits with similar missions will support cooperative learning now and partnering in the future. This workshop is supported by a grant from the Fred Baldwin Memorial Foundation.

Effective board governance is critical to ensuring that a nonprofit organization delivers on its mission, manages its resources effectively, and maintains its reputation. This workshop highlights the critical elements and best practices that help assure high quality board governance. This half-day workshop will provide board members with tools to help them become more engaged and informed and to fully understand the commitment of serving on a nonprofit board. Participants will also learn about the essential functions of a nonprofit board, best practices for board members, risks and liabilities associated with board member participation, board and staff dynamic and strategies for building a strong, diverse board. This workshop is especially relevant for nonprofit board members and executive directors.

When: Monday June 23; 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.; includes lunch; registration opens at 8:30 a.m.
Where: Maui Tropical Plantation, 1670 Honoapiilani Hwy, Wailuku, Maui

Biannual Statewide Agricultural Conference

The Agricultural Leadership Foundation of Hawai‘i, the Hawaii Farm Bureau Federation, UH-CTAHR and the Hawaii Department of Agriculture announce the dates for the 2008 Statewide Agriculture Conference. The All Ag Day for Ag Conference 2008 is Thursday September 4, 2008.

A second day, Friday September 5, 2008, is reserved for commodity groups or agricultural associations to plan events for their specific needs. Both days will be organized and promoted together. Ag Conference 2008 will be held at the Hawaii Convention Center and will feature keynote speakers, seminars and workshops, a 2-day tradeshow, awards, celebrations, fellowship and, of course, wonderful Hawaii food and ag products.
