Agricultural Leadership Training Program

The Foundation provides a statewide multi-disciplinary Leadership Training Program for those working in agricultural and rural businesses and organizations as well as those in other sectors that overlap with agriculture (environment, tourism, economic development, health). This program trains individuals who have already demonstrated a commitment to lead in the agricultural industry or their communities. The program provides the tools for participants to enhance their leadership skills. Click here for expanded Scope of Training and Curriculum.

Dr. Donna Ching is the Coordinator of Leadership Training Program and is an Extensions Specialist at the College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources (CTAHR), at the University of Hawaii. To learn more about Donna click here.

Hawaii’s future depends on urban and rural communities working together because the economic vitality of agriculture and rural communities has reverberating effects throughout our entire society. If we as a community maintain that a healthy thriving sustainable agricultural sector is an important piece of Hawaii’s overall future we must continue to support those who will help us get there. We need strong, effective voices helping to show the way. To read more about the need for leadership click here.

Our current class, Class XII, began meeting in July of 2008 and will be graduating in December of 2009. Click here to see program participants. Click here to view their Class mission, the Calendar and a summary of activities for the current class.

In the past 25 years over 100 alumni  have participated in our Agricultural Leadership Training Program. Our alumni are located across the state and are involved in a myriad of agricultural endeavors; including small crop farmers (organic, floral, tropical nuts & fruits, etc), large commodity producers (livestock, coffee, sugar, pineapple, etc), Ag Tourism ventures, non-profit administrators, university professors and researchers and government leaders. Our alumni are a major resource for the current class, providing site visits, lectures and hospitality. To read more about our impact in the community click here.

Class I was formed in October 1982. Training has progressed, class by class, until the present. The alumni of these in-depth training sessions have formed strong bonds and an ease of networking and collaborating for the advancement of agricultural and rural community causes in Hawaii. Please visit the Success Stories page for profiles of some of ALFH’s outstanding alumni and their contributions to Hawaii’s agricultural and rural sectors.
