Sunday Funday in DC!

Arriving early Sunday morning at Dulles International Airport, the Hawaii ALP class XIV was ready for some coffee, breakfast, and nap time, although not necessarily in that order!  Luggage retrieval proved a bit challenging, with one person’s luggage almost heading off with a group of middle schoolers on a sightseeing tour, and another’s coming in on a different plane straight from Honolulu to Dulles (we didn’t even know they did that!)  but we got through it and ended up at our hotel at about 8am.  Which was way before the check in time…

After a quick assessment, we realized that we better hit the ground running, so one group bravely headed off to the Arlington National Cemetery, while another braved the unknown Rosslyn downtown in search of bacon…both groups were successful, and we spent the morning familiarizing ourselves with our surroundings in one way or another.  And finally it was game time…literally!

A short taxi ride took a few of us to Nationals Park where we spent the sunny afternoon watching the Nationals beat the Braves-two leaders in our class experienced their first major league baseball game (!!!) and we had a great time trying to beat the jet lag!

After a fun afternoon at the stadium, a museum, or just recovering, we met up at Founding Farmers restaurant in Foggy Bottom for a dinner that would meet our “farm to table” expectations.  We were not disappointed!  From pot roast, to southern fried chicken salad, southern fried chicken and waffles, and scallops with risotto, the dinners were fresh, tasty, and comforting.  If there had been a place to sleep there after such a good meal we probably would have done it!

At this point we headed back to the Metro, a transportation experience we were just beginning to master, and returned to our hotel.  We’re pretty excited, a little tired, and looking forward to a productive two weeks together!

We’d Love to Hear From You!
